Her Divine Right
Women have a unique place of power which no other being in existence has - we have direct and complete contact with children.
From the time a child is conceived, to the time he is born, he resides and is created within the very body of a woman. Her vitals, thoughts, and emotions directly affect and influence the child more completely and pervasively than anybody will ever again influence him.
Once the child is born, it is his mother that cares for his every need. She is his life and his potential. He looks to her, helplessly, completely trusting, vulnerable in every way for everything in his small world. He receives her care, her love, her words, her own perspective of herself, and how she sees him as truth because she is his mother; the one who gives and teaches him life.
Women have the most truly subjective influence one can have over another human being.
Women are given this power without question, without license, without merit; the right to create life within us and instill the most fundamental "I am" of humanity.
We are the ones who hold, create, shape, and define culture. We build society from below the ground up. Every word you utter while you are with that child, every thought you think, every prayer, and every emotion you let pervade you is creating that child’s most basic beliefs about himself and his existence.
We, as women, write the words that come after “I am” in every child’s life.
That child is irrelevant right now. He provides nothing to society, and your efforts and investments in that child are also irrelevant, completely pointless and without any value. Your right as a woman is irrelevant; right now, in the present. In this moment in time, and also tomorrow, and even next week. Next year, even in five years, your efforts are fruitless.
But in 20 years when that child’s decisions begin to affect humanity at large? When that boy becomes a man, what you, his mother, did today will be everything but irrelevant. When his wishes, desires, understanding, and aspirations begin to shape the lives of those around him, the way you treated him, taught him, and loved him will change everything.
When your baby girl becomes a woman, giving life and beauty to the world around her and investing in her own children, you will see just how truly terrifying it is to know that God simply gave women this much power over humanity’s potential.
One of the most effective ways a woman influences her child is through her own self-perspective. As women, our own “I am” becomes the "I am" of our culture. I am strong, I am smart, I am healthy, I am beautiful, I am valuable, I am loved.
As the saying goes: “The greatest thing a father can do for his children is to love their mother.” Let her know how valued and loved she is, how supported and beautiful she truly is. She will take this "I am" and give it to her children also.
Men hold the present. They have the power and right to enforce their beliefs right now. They protect us from the dangers of now, they help humanity through the difficulties and problems that arise each day, they set an example for the children of today; something for them to aspire to and respect each and every day. Men are the strength, the provision, and the life force that humanity rises to every morning. Without the present, there won’t be a future, but what is the point of today if there is no tomorrow?
We as women are the vessels that hold the future. We take resources and potential of the now as well as timeless hope and love for more to come and invest it in time to come, weaving intricate tapestries that will one day become the fabric of society.
A woman's power - her right - is realized in the future. It is a subtle power, like that of water. Maybe not now, or tomorrow or even in five years, but given surprisingly little time, water erodes canyons, crumbles mountains, and defines continents. Likewise, a woman's actions today create the future – my future, her own future. It doesn’t take as long as it may seem.
Women are the only promise for a tomorrow. What you do and say now may seem pointless because it does not take immediate effect, just as a seed is nothing today. But in 20 years? Where you planted that seed and how you nurtured it will change everything and the whole world will stand in awe.
Women hold, in our delicate hands, the happy ever after of humanity.
